概要 | The present study examined the effect of the freshmen’s self-enhancing presentations toward their friends on later perception of the evaluations from friends. 91 freshmen (66 males, 25 females) participated in the longitudinal study and answered the questionnaire three times (April, May, and July). Main findings were as follows: 1) As participants’ self-presentations toward their new friends got more self-enhancing in May (period in formation of the relationship with their new friends), their perception of how they were evaluated from their new friends got more positive in July. 2) As participants’ self-presentations toward their old friends whom they knew before college got more self-enhancing in April, their perception of how they were evaluated from their old friends got more positive in July. Result 1 supported the hypothesis, although Result 2 didn’t support the hypothesis. These results indicated that in order for freshmen to adapt well in college, presenting themselves in self-enhancing ways to both their new and old friends were equally effective. |
