概要 | This study focused on faith healing against smallpox during the 19th century in Kanagawa Prefecture 神奈川縣 and its surrounding areas, including Edo (Tokyo). Particularly, it examined the methods to treat infected children before and after vaccination was introduced in the hamlet of Harayama and surrounding areas in the village of Nakatou, Tama County, Musashi Province, on the outskirts of Edo, which was at the time the seat of the Tokugawa Shogunate. We also included seven villages in Ashigara-Kami County, located in Kanagawa Prefecture. |
